The news continues to filter in from the Television Critics Association summer press tour, this time from MTV.
MTV has renewed Scream for a second season, as the adaptation of the iconic horror movie franchise debuted to 1.03 million viewers and a 0.5 in the 18-49 demographic earlier this month. In network broadcast terms, that’d be lousy. But on cable? For a show that can be made this inexpensively? Those numbers start to look a whole hell of a lot better.
“It has been a wonderful experience working with Bob Weinstein and his team, who are such connoisseurs of this genre and we are thrilled by how our viewers have responded to the reinvention of Scream,” said MTV’s Mina Lefevre. “We look forward to another season filled with suspense, horror and more twists and turns.”
In this iteration of the franchise, the high schoolers are getting picked off one-by-one following a cyber bullying fiasco. However, unlike fellow horror series American Horror Story, Scream will not be an anthology series with a new cast each season. Barring any more deaths before season’s end, the show will be keeping the cast it has now, which includes Willa Fitzgerald, Bex Taylor-Klaus, John Karna, Connor Weil, Carlson Young and Amadeus Serafini.

Still there’s plenty of tension yet to be resolved: Who will make it out alive? Who will be killed? And will the killer’s identity be revealed by the end of this season, or will the show tease out that reveal for Season 2? It should be a thrilling conclusion.
